My distaste for mice is fueled once again.
I had 4 mice. They got hungry. I now have 3 1/2 mice. |

This looks like it's gonna be good. This has got to be the most successful 'comic' movie franchise to date. And why not? It's fantastic.

Did you ever notice that there are activities where there really is no middle ground.
Take Holding Doors for example. If you are exiting a building, and somebody is RIGHT behind you, you have two options. 1. Hold the door. 2. Don't hold the door.
Option 1 makes you seem like a nice guy. Option 2 makes you seem like a jerk.
Neither has a null effect. There is no option that would NOT affect the other person's opinion of you.
I thought of this when I silently called the guy in front of me a jerk when he opened the door just enough for him, and failed to hold it for me. Jerk. |

The Vatican (which I can't say I fully respect anyway, not being Catholic) has issued comments which reportedly reject the idea of Intelligent Design. I tried for a full 30 seconds to find the official site where these comment were issued, and I think it lies somewhere in here: http://www.stoqnet.org/index_e.html. Regardless, it appears the Vatican's stance on Evolution is that it has a high probability of being somewhat true, with comments such as: “(Evolution) is more than a hypothesis because there is proof.”
The true point of the new edict, however, is that the vatican followers should be careful to not reject science based on their personal interpretation of the Biblical account of anything. They state that we run the risk of fundamentalism if we do so.
I have a couple problems with this view:
- Evolution has proof? I am admittedly out of the loop with current 'evolutionary proof', but all of the proof that I can recall has been circumstantial at best. The 'Proof' that has been found has proved tiny pieces of things that are only slightly related to the big-picture theory of evolution that the average Joe thinks of when he hears 'Evolution'. To over-simplify a few of them:
- The amino-acid making machine: atmosphere all wrong for supposed situation, and the results showed only that random amino acids could be created in this manner. They were all left-handed (bad), and none of them (if I remember right) formed full proteins, or even useful amino acids.
- Classic 'cave men' - 'Lucy' and the other skeletons: Found under odd circumstances that makes them questionable. Lucy, for example, was found in pieces: a few bones here, a few more bones found in lower strata, and a few bones found a mile or so away. Much supporting evidence would be required to prove these belong together. Another was created entirely from a tooth that turned out to be from a pig. Not all were obvious hoaxes like this, but with several that were, it casts some doubt over the entire set.
- The color-changing moth... Both existed. One just prevailed because of the environment.
Furthermore, where are the 'missing links'.. It's not like we're missing one. We're missing all of them. We keep finding new species, but never cross-species. I'll quit or this whole post will be full of my pseudo-science half-recollections.
- Is Fundamentalism a bad thing? I'm still on the fence with this one: making sure I understand the argument.
- Does a recognition that the Creation Account in Genesis leaves out scientific details mean that we need to accept Evolution? No.
I can agree that the Genesis account does not lay out the details of the events in scientific detail for us. What it does say is that it took six days, and it came into being by the Word of God; his actual speaking. Does this rule out the possibility of scientific explanation? No. Does it mean it only took six days and God was very involved? Yes.

| » A sad story |
So I've been buying mice from time to time to feed Walter, the boa. Recently, I got myself a male and a couple famales, but somewhat of a freak picking coincidence. So I let two of them do their business. Recently, I noticed that the one female was getting much wider. So I let her alone and fed the rest to the snake, save the male. So today, I came back from my shenanegans around town, and was bringing items into the house. I looked at the mouse cage, and the poor female was laying in the cage, not moving. So I poked her. Dead. Depressing. But she was way thinner. So I lifted the inner cage and under the sawdust, there was at least two baby mice down there and the male was giving me a horrible look. So it looks like the poor female gave birth and then croaked. A bittersweet tragedy. So I'm hoping the male can take care of those babies. If so, those mice will not die; they will be my other pets.

The Penny Arcade folks have again said something I find noteworthy. And I quote:
"Someone needs to emphasize this in such a way that the right people see it: people who pirate software enjoy cracking it. The game itself is orders of magnitude less amusing. And their distributed ingenuity will smash your firm, secure edifice into beach absolutely every Goddamn time. There are no exceptions to this rule."
I couldn't have said it better myself. And my own personal experience coincides with this statement. I'm no game cracker, but finding, acquiring, and feebly attempting such subterfuge are typically far more amusing than the games themselves.

Nothing to update. Same things happening as usual. Work. TV. Sleep (on occasion).
I have been getting into that show LOST as of late. Don't think I'll buy the DVDs, but I definitely want to see 'em all eventually. That stupid monster is pissing me off: just tell us what it is.
